EXPERIMENTATION: Projections

I went about experimenting further with projections, this time focussing particularly on projecting into mirrors.
I created a box-set using four mirrors. From my previous experiment with projection and seeing how the mirror duplicates images through its reflection, I thought it would be interesting to see how a series of several mirrors would work.
The mirrors worked similarly to my experiments with tracing paper as the more mirrors incorporated, the more transparent the image appears, again giving a quite eerie look.
I also like the idea of having an image repeated endlessly as the mirrors would reflect the image several times through each reflection of the mirror itself and how the image changes depending on the angle it is looked at, as the light from the projector seeps through, splitting the image in different ways.

EXPERIMENTATION: Tracing Paper

I decided to experiment again with printing onto tracing paper. I particularly like how the transparency  of the material and the black and white colouring gives a ghostly effect which also literally presents the idea of the ghost of a past life and past memories.

I like how the contrast between a coloured image layered with a black and white image makes the images hard to see as two, but defines them as one; as seen in the third photograph, where I scanned the image in upside down by accident, this creates shadows and distorts the image further, reflecting the idea that memories are there within the person, but memories blur and fade into one over time.

EXPERIMENTATION: Tracing Paper

I experimented through the use of tracing paper to print my photographs and overlap them both on the scanner and by layering the printed pages.
I think the tracing paper gives a nice quality to the images and I also like how the image is unclear until its held up to the light.
I think the idea is simple yet effective in showing a clear contrast in images and I like the way the images blend and distort, making it unclear which is at the front of the image or behind

EXPERIMENTATION: Projections

I decided to use the concept from One Direction's music video for 'Story of my Life' to project images of my families past onto them into a space from the present.
I don't think the final outcome was very successful because as a whole my family were not really willing to be part of the piece.
Ontop of this the image used of the layered edited photographs appeared quite faint and I would rather have a stronger image.
I could redo this experiment again using my original photographs for a stronger image and I could leave the projector running thoughout the day so my family would not be asked to pose, but instead would become used to the projector being there, eventually forgetting it is there, for more natural shots.

I then went onto project into my own bedroom space. I chose this particular room because I felt that a bedroom is a space that represents an individual as most of my time is spent in my room. My room is my own and reflects my character through the books on my shelf, the clothes in my wardrobe and the photographs on my walls. therefore you can conclude many things about a person from their room.
I feel these experiments went better as there was so much more scape as I could project onto walls, objects and different surfaces. My favourite being the floorboards as they give an old textured effect to the photographs and that of the mirror as I like the grainy effect the mirror gives with all the finger prints and scratches. I feel a mirror is also a personal object as it can represent what you have been through as a person as every mark on it has a story behind it. Ontop of this the mirror allowed me to position my own face within the shot, allowing both myself and the projection to be seen, which is something I really liked. Also, I particularly like how when projected into a mirror, the image duplicates, reflecting off it onto different surfaces, showing the image to be never ending, which is something I see to reflect life experiences themselves; that they are not something that will ever end, but will continue, not only in you but in those who carry your memories.

ARTISTS INTERPRETATION: Edited Photographs

I edited my original photographs using an online editing site called 'pixlr'.
I used the editor to layer the photographs over eachother, using similar images to show the contrasts between then and now.
This idea was inspired by the work of Ben Winston in his music video for One Direction's 'Story of my Life'.
I particularly like how, when overlapped, the images distort what is the present and what was the past, and the images become quite transparent giving a ghostly effect; representative of how the past is literally just a ghost of the life I once lived, and showing how now everything has changed.
I like this method as I feel it is an easy, visual way to show big differences in my life and is an idea I will ocntinue to test out throughout my project.
